The concert of Serbian folk group “BELO PLATNO” in Shkodra


The Orthodox Association “St. Jovan Vladimir” with the financial support of the Office for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the region and the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia on March 22nd 2014, at 6 p.m. organized in the hall of Cinema “Millenium” in Shkodra, a concert of original folk music performed by the group “Belo Platno” from Serbia. This musical evening was named by the organizer as “The Evening of the Traditional Serbian and Balkans Music”.The repertoire of the concert, which was organized as part of the “organization of a series of study and cultural activities for the revival of cultural and religious life of members of the Serbian people of all ages in Albania in 2013 and 2014”, consisted of songs and musical parts from different parts of Serbia and other areas where the Serbian people live.
The composition of the group “Belo Platno” consisted of artists such as: Mrs.Svetlana Spajić (vocal), Mr.Vladimir Simic (vocal, drum and kaval), Mr.Dusan Popovic (def, tarabuka, ćiftelija ,bagpipes), Mr. Milan Dosen (vocal, kaval) and Mr. Alexander Vasov ( vocal, kaval , tambura and bagpipes). On this occasion they were dressed in traditional costumes of various regions of Serbia. They presented the Serbian audience of Shkodra the Serbian traditional music and songs from all over the regions inhabited by Serbs in Macedonia, Kosovo, Southwest Serbia ( Peshter’s Valley), Eastern Serbia and Republika Srpska .
Numerous members of the Serbian minority in Shkodra , Vraka , Lezha and other areas, as well as their children have followed this unique concert in the Serbian language with great enthusiasm , whose every song donated a round of heartfelt applause. The sounds of folk instruments, music and the beauty of Serbian folk costumes infused in them the spirit of homeland, the history of their people, the Serbian culture, tradition, religion and nature. The pastoral poems, the poems about love for fellow human beings, about God and our country made them feel like home. At the end of the show, lots of people hurried to congratulate and thank the group and the organizers for the wonderful evening they arranged for them and expressed their hope and requests that such cultural events will be organized in the future as often as possible.
This special cultural event, which was organised in cooperation with association of Serbian-Montenegrin national minority association ” Moraca-Rozafa”, with special contribution of its president Mr. Pavlo Jakoja (Brajovic),  was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Tirana Mr. Miroljub Zaric, The Honorary Consul of Austria in Shkodra Mr. Gjergj Leqejza, The Secretary General of the Prefect of Shkodra, The Regional Director of the State Directorate of Social Service of Shkodra, representatives from the local government of Shkodra and friendly non-governmental organizations that work with the Serbian Associations of Shkodra.
The concert was followed by a number of local television of the city of Shkodra and print-journalists who after the show had a chance to feedback their positive impressions from the audience record and publish it in their media.
On behalf of the members of the Serbian-Montenegrin minority in Shkodra, The Orthodox Association “St. Jovan Vladimir ” expressed gratitude to the Office for Relations with the Diaspora and Serbs in the region and the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia on the unconditional support that they provide to our people in Albania, aiming the national progress and rebirth through assistance and facilitate our activities to preserve the culture, traditions, language and other elements of national identity.
